
KINGSTON, JAMAICA: October 31, 2014 – Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill, is set to travel to London, England, to participate in World Travel Market 2014, which will be held from November 3-5, 2014. The Minister departs the island tomorrow, November 1.
World Travel Market, the leading global event for the travel industry, is a vibrant business-to-business forum presenting a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors to UK and international travel professionals. It provides a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business.
During WTM 2014, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will be hosting a Ministers’ Summit on November 4 at which Minister McNeill has been invited to be a panelist on the theme: “Tourism and Mega Events: Building a Lasting Legacy”.
The UNWTO/WTM Ministers’ Summit will bring together tourism ministers and leading tourism experts from all over the world to debate key issues surrounding tourism and mega-events, in particular:
- How to measure the impact of mega events on tourism destinations
- How to ensure adequate infrastructure development and planning
- How to promote environmentally sustainable events
- How to translate the hosting of mega events into strong destination brands
- How to promote community engagement and invest in human capital
Minister McNeill is being accompanied by Director of Tourism, Paul Pennicook, and Consultant – Airlift & Special Projects, John Lynch. He will return to the island on Thursday, November 6, 2014.
